NZ Chinese Community Leaders Meet with Xi Jinping at Beijing Conference

Xi Jinping met with representatives to the 10th Conference for Friendship of Overseas Chinese Associations at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on May 8, 2023. The theme of the conference is “enhancing communication between China and the world and advancing the building of a community with a shared future for humanity”.
According to China Xinhua News, the conference “gathered nearly 500 leading members of overseas Chinese associations from more than 130 countries and regions.”


Seven representatives from New Zealand include:
– Julie Chen (陈水珍)、head of the New Zealand Overseas Chinese Union. She wrote a public letter to warn David Seymour after the ACT invited last year.
– Fiona Li(李芬), head of New Zealand Huaxing Arts Troupe.
– Alex Zhang (张云), head of Federation of New Zealand Shenzhen Societies
– Rachael Qi (齐慧芳)Co-Chair of the China and New Zealand Business Council, President of Multicultural Council of Wellington, Vice President of NZ China International Trade Association. Rachel Qi ran for the Wellington City Council as an independent candidate in the last local body election.
